Madrid Day 6: Sinner, Tsitsipas and Andreeva march into last 16

The sixth day of the Mutua Madrid Open confirmed the favorites' surge. Across the Caja Mágica courts, the seeded players mostly held their ground, with several standout performances.

On the ATP side, Jannik Sinner dispatched Danish qualifier Elmer Moller 6-2, 6-3. The world number one conceded just five games, underlining the relentless consistency that has defined his season. Lorenzo Musetti, the sixth seed, had to work harder to overcome Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 7-5 in a tighter affair than the scoreline suggests.

Stefanos Tsitsipas delivered the performance of the day, sweeping aside Alexander Bublik, the world number 11, 6-2, 7-5. The Greek rediscovered the fluidity and aggression that make him a force on clay. Daniil Medvedev claimed his first clay win since Monte-Carlo, edging past Fabian Marozsan 6-2, 6-7(3), 6-4 in a gritty three-setter.

Jiri Lehecka powered past Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-2, while Arthur Fils, the freshly crowned Barcelona champion, kept his momentum going with a 7-6(2), 6-3 victory over Emilio Nava. Nineteen-year-old local hero Rafael Jodar struck again, ousting 27th seed Joao Fonseca 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-1 before an electric home crowd.

On the WTA side, Mirra Andreeva continues to impress. The Russian swept past Dalma Galfi 6-3, 6-2, taking her 2026 clay record to nine wins and just one loss. Naomi Osaka, ranked 15th, also sailed through the third round, dismissing Anhelina Kalinina 6-1, 6-3.

The round of 16 promises blockbuster clashes: Sinner will face Cameron Norrie, Tsitsipas takes on local hope Daniel Merida, and Aryna Sabalenka meets Osaka in a highly anticipated showdown. (Sources: ATP Tour, Olympics.com, Tennis Majors)
