Lorenzo Musetti will not compete at Roland-Garros. The world No.10 announced his withdrawal on Wednesday via Instagram, revealing a rectus femoris injury that requires several weeks of rest and recovery.
The timing could hardly be worse for the 24-year-old Italian, who reached the semi-finals in Paris last year. Losing those ranking points will push him out of the top 10 as early as next week, a significant setback in a 2026 season already plagued by physical issues.
Warning signs were clear at the Italian Open. On Tuesday, Musetti fell 6-3, 6-1 to Casper Ruud in a lifeless performance. "The future of the season is foggy," he admitted after the match, before medical examinations confirmed the severity of the problem.
This withdrawal adds to a troubling pattern. A retirement at the Australian Open in January, followed by absence from the Miami Masters in March: the body simply cannot keep up with the talent. At a stage when his creative game and unique touch should be taking him to new heights, Musetti is forced to watch the tournament that gave him his finest memories from the sidelines.
No return date has been announced. The goal will be to regain fitness for the grass-court season, though with Wimbledon starting on June 29, time is running short.
