Linda Noskova won Wimbledon 2026 with a weapon few players of her stature command so effectively: her serve. At twenty-one and five foot ten, the Czech built her London victory on a first delivery that terrorised opponents for two weeks.
The final's numbers speak volumes. Six aces against a single double fault. Thirty-nine per cent of her first serves went unreturned by Karolina Muchova, herself one of the tour's best returners. Across the tournament, Noskova compiled nineteen grass-court wins this season, the best total on the WTA tour, confirming that her dominance is no accident.
Placement makes the difference. Noskova does not possess the raw power of a Sabalenka or a Rybakina. Her first serve sits around 109 mph, respectable but not exceptional. What sets her apart is the precision of her placement and the variety of her trajectories. A wide slice to the backhand on the ad court, then a flat ball down the centre on the deuce side. The opponent can never anticipate.
On grass, this combination becomes devastating. The fast surface shortens the returner's reaction time. The low bounce of the slice accentuates the angle and forces the opponent to get very low to return. Noskova exploits the physics of grass better than anyone on the current tour.
Her game behind the serve has also improved. After a successful first delivery, Noskova follows up with an aggressive forehand that takes the ball early and pushes her opponent deep. This ability to dictate rhythm from the first exchange allows her to build short, efficient service games, conserving energy for the decisive moments.
The comparison with Petra Kvitova is inevitable. The two-time Wimbledon champion also possessed a devastating serve for her height, paired with a powerful forehand. Noskova shares this profile of an aggressive player who imposes her tempo, but she adds a dimension that Kvitova did not have at the same age: the ability to vary pace and construct the point when the first serve does not produce an outright winner.
At twenty-one, with a Grand Slam title and a game that continues to improve, Noskova has all the ingredients to dominate grass for several seasons. Her serve, refined week after week on tour, remains the cornerstone of her game. As long as it fires, the Czech will be dangerous on every fast surface.
