Jannik Sinner has written a new chapter in tennis history. By defeating Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-4 in the Italian Open quarterfinals, the world number one extended his consecutive Masters 1000 winning streak to 32 matches, surpassing the record of 31 held by Novak Djokovic since 2011.
The Italian's dominance was emphatic from the start. He broke Rublev in the opening game with a forehand winner on the run, setting the tone for a one-sided affair. Despite saving two break points in the fourth game, Sinner quickly pulled away to take the first set 6-2.
The second set followed a similar pattern. Rublev found himself trailing 4-1 with no answer to his opponent's relentless consistency. Sinner closed out the match on serve, wrapping things up in just over ninety minutes.
This historic streak, which began after his loss in Shanghai in October 2025, now spans six consecutive Masters 1000 tournaments. Since Indian Wells in March, the Italian has dropped just two sets across this remarkable run.
"I don't play for records, I play for my story," Sinner said after the match. "But at the same time it means a lot to me. Tomorrow is another day and another opponent."
In the semifinals, Sinner will pursue a clear goal: clinching a maiden Rome title and moving closer to the Career Golden Masters. As the top seed for Roland-Garros starting May 24, Sinner enters the final stretch of the clay season in scintillating form.
