Czech tennis takes centre stage at Wimbledon. On Saturday at 4 p.m. on Centre Court, Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova will contest the women's singles title. An all-Czech final, the first between two players from the same nation since Venus and Serena Williams in 2009.
Muchova, twenty-nine, the tenth seed, is in her second Grand Slam final after Roland-Garros 2023. Her London run commands respect: she defeated three Grand Slam champions in the same draw for the first time in her career. Her semi-final against Coco Gauff will linger in memory, the Czech saving a match point before overturning the American in three sets. "We have a great history of Czech tennis. Looking up to those girls gave me the belief I can do it too," she said.
Noskova, twenty-one, the ninth seed, is experiencing her first Grand Slam breakthrough. Winner of the Berlin grass-court event in preparation, she dismissed Marta Kostyuk in straight sets in the semi-finals. Her 2025-2026 grass-court record is remarkable: 19 wins, the best tally on the WTA Tour. Victory would make her the youngest Wimbledon champion since Petra Kvitova in 2011.
The head-to-head favours Muchova, who leads 1-0 after a straight-sets victory in the third round of the 2025 US Open. But Noskova has improved considerably since that meeting, particularly on grass where her serve is her primary weapon. "I focus most on my serve, it's my most powerful tool on grass court," she stated.
The contrast in styles promises a compelling spectacle. Muchova, the artist with her unpredictable drop shots and net rushes, riding a ten-match winning streak. Noskova, the power hitter with a booming serve and flat forehands. The older of the two, at twenty-nine, would be the oldest player to reach her first Wimbledon final since 1998.
The stakes extend beyond the trophy. The champion will pocket £3.6 million and 2,000 ranking points. But for Czech tennis, this final represents something deeper: the continuation of a tradition that has seen Navratilova, Novotna, Kvitova and Krejcikova lift major trophies. On Saturday, one of them will write the next chapter.
