Novak Djokovic has made his choice. Three days before Roland-Garros begins, the Serbian star revealed on Instagram that Viktor Troicki will be his new coach. "Welcome, my friend, my teammate and now my coach," he wrote on Wednesday evening.
The timing is significant. Djokovic turns 39 today and is embarking on what could be his final Paris campaign with a historic goal: a 25th Grand Slam title that would give him the all-time record outright.
Troicki, a former world No. 12 and three-time ATP title winner, has known Djokovic since their junior days in Belgrade. They have partnered in doubles on multiple occasions and helped Serbia claim the 2020 ATP Cup. Since 2021, Troicki has served as Serbia's Davis Cup captain.
This appointment follows the split with Andy Murray at the end of the 2025 season. Djokovic had been coaching himself since then, though he still reached the Australian Open final (lost to Alcaraz in February).
His clay-court season remains a concern. A shoulder injury forced him out of Madrid, and he arrives in Paris with minimal match practice on the surface. The draw placed him in the opposite half to Jannik Sinner, which could allow him to build momentum.
With Troicki by his side, Djokovic is betting on trust and familiarity over tactical innovation. A choice driven by the heart as much as by strategy for a champion who refuses to yield to time.
