Halys wins Kitzbühel: Frenchman claims maiden ATP title over Bublik

Quentin Halys claimed his maiden ATP title at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel, defeating defending champion Alexander Bublik 6-4, 7-6(6) in one hour and thirty-three minutes. The twenty-nine-year-old Frenchman became the first player from France to lift the trophy in the Austrian resort town during the Open Era, ending a run of six French final defeats.

An unstoppable serve against the world number eleven

Halys built his victory on a devastatingly efficient serve. He fired seventeen aces past Bublik, lost just five points behind his first delivery, and conceded zero break points across the entire match. In the first set, the Frenchman converted his only two set-point opportunities to lead 6-4, seizing control from the third game onward.

The second-set tiebreak proved more tense. Bublik earned a set point at 6-5, but Halys saved it with composure before reeling off the final three points to clinch the title. The Kazakh, who needed sixteen serves before Halys won his first return point, never found a crack in his opponent's service armour.

Fourteen years of perseverance on tour

The title caps fourteen years of patience on the professional circuit. Halys, who had reached just one other ATP final in his career, spent years navigating between the top 100 and top 80 in the rankings. Born in Villecresnes and a veteran of countless qualifying draws, he embodies the grinding path that defines so many French players of his generation.

On the Austrian clay, Halys swept through the draw without dropping a set, dismissing Laslo Djere, Valentin Vacherot, Mariano Navone, and Yannick Hanfmann in the semifinals along the way. Six French players had lost Kitzbühel finals before him. Halys broke that curse in emphatic fashion.

Key numbers

Halys served 17 aces in the final compared to 6 for Bublik. Zero sets dropped across five matches, zero break points conceded in the final. The Frenchman rises to around world number 50, a career-high ranking.
