Van Assche wins the all-French duel at Estoril
The all-French semifinal between Van Assche and Gaston produced a controlled performance from the younger man rather than the expected drama. In Prague, on hard courts, the day produced two upsets. Lilli Tagger, nineteen years old, pulled off the biggest result of her career by eliminating former Roland-Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-6(4) after two hours and fifty minutes. The Austrian, a set down, showed remarkable composure to snatch the deciding tiebreak.
