ATP Rankings: Géa Breaks Into Top 100, Alcaraz Returns to No. 2

Jannik Sinner begins his 83rd consecutive week atop the ATP rankings published on Monday, August 3, firmly established with 13,450 points. The main movement of the week occurs just behind him: Carlos Alcaraz reclaims second place from Alexander Zverev, while Frenchman Arthur Géa breaks into the top 100 after winning his maiden ATP title in Los Cabos.

Alcaraz reclaims second place without playing

The shift at the top is not the result of an on-court triumph but a points calculation. Zverev, a semifinalist at the 2025 Canadian Open, loses the 360 points he was defending this week. That automatic drop takes him from 8,480 to 8,120 points, just below Alcaraz's 8,160. The Spaniard, still recovering from his wrist injury, reclaims second place without hitting a ball. The gap between the two is just 40 points: a strong run from Zverev in Montreal this week could reverse the order by next Monday. Félix Auger-Aliassime holds fourth with 4,740 points, Novak Djokovic sits fifth, and Daniil Medvedev moves up to sixth with 3,620 points.

Shelton drops, Cobolli rises

Ben Shelton takes the biggest hit in the top 10. The defending Canadian Open champion, who won his maiden Masters 1000 title in Toronto last year, loses the 1,000 points from that victory and slides from eighth to tenth with 2,680 points. On the other end, Italian Flavio Cobolli benefits from the reshuffle to reach eighth in the world, his career-high ranking, with 3,330 points. Alex de Minaur sits seventh and Taylor Fritz ninth, pending the result of the rain-delayed DC Open final against Rafael Jódar.

Géa surges into the top 100 after Los Cabos title

The most spectacular movement of the week belongs to a Frenchman. Arthur Géa, who claimed the Los Cabos title by defeating Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-4 in Saturday's final, jumps from 127th to 82nd in the world. It is the first ATP title of his career. The 21-year-old from Velleron in the Vaucluse region is the fifth Frenchman inside the top 100 this season, a number not seen since 2019. His entry into this zone opens the door to qualifying at every Masters 1000 and gives him a realistic path to Grand Slam main draws through his ranking.

Across the Pyrenees, 19-year-old Rafael Jódar continues his meteoric rise. A finalist at the DC Open after defeating Lorenzo Musetti and Alejandro Tabilo, the young Spaniard moves toward the top 15. The result of his final against Fritz later today will determine whether he enters at 15th or 12th. A year ago, he was ranked beyond 600th.

What changes this week

The Canadian Open, which begins Monday in Montreal (ATP) and Toronto (WTA), will reshuffle the rankings by next week. Zverev, the top seed in Montreal, has the opportunity to immediately reclaim second place. Shelton, defending a title, will need to reach at least the quarterfinals to stabilize his position inside the top 10. Sinner, absent from Montreal to prepare for the Cincinnati Masters 1000, is not defending any points and will maintain his comfortable 5,290-point lead over Alcaraz.
