ATP Rankings: Halys and Van Assche surge into top 55 after maiden titles

The ATP rankings published on Monday July 27 confirm Jannik Sinner's dominance at the top, but the most spectacular moves happened further down the list. Two Frenchmen, Quentin Halys and Luca Van Assche, surged dramatically after winning their maiden ATP titles on the same weekend.

Top 3 unchanged

Jannik Sinner holds the top spot with 13,450 points, boosted by his back-to-back Wimbledon triumph. Alexander Zverev (8,480 pts) and Carlos Alcaraz (8,160 pts) round out the podium. Alcaraz, still recovering from a wrist injury sustained in Barcelona in April, has not competed in three months.

Djokovic rises, Shelton slides

The biggest move inside the top 10 belongs to Novak Djokovic, who climbs two spots to fifth (3,760 pts). The Serb, a Wimbledon semi-finalist, benefits from Ben Shelton's drop from sixth to eighth (3,580 pts). Alex de Minaur (6th, 3,660 pts) and Daniil Medvedev (7th, 3,620 pts) each shift one position. Felix Auger-Aliassime stays firmly at No. 4 (4,740 pts), while Flavio Cobolli (9th) and Taylor Fritz (10th) close out a stable bottom half.

A golden weekend for French tennis

The real story of this ranking update lies between positions 48 and 52. Quentin Halys, 28, won the Kitzbühel title by defeating defending champion Alexander Bublik in the final. His maiden ATP trophy catapults him from 83rd to 52nd, a leap of 31 places and a career-high ranking (980 pts).

Luca Van Assche, just 21, lifted his first ATP trophy at Estoril after a remarkable run that included a quarter-final victory over Andrey Rublev and a three-set final win against Alexander Blockx (6-4, 4-6, 7-5). Van Assche rockets 30 places from 78th to 48th (998 pts). Two French winners on the same weekend is a rare feat for les Bleus.

Buse makes history in Hamburg

Another notable surge belongs to Ignacio Buse. The Peruvian qualifier took the Hamburg title by beating Tommy Paul in the final (7-6, 4-6, 6-3). Buse became the first Peruvian to win an ATP singles title since Luis Horna in 2007 and now sits at No. 34 (1,350 pts).

The American swing begins

The full ATP rankings enter a pivotal stretch as the road to the US Open begins. The Mubadala DC Open, an ATP 500, kicks off Monday in Washington with de Minaur, Medvedev, Shelton, Fritz and Auger-Aliassime seeded. Sinner, Djokovic and Alcaraz have all withdrawn from the Montreal Masters 1000 (August 1), prioritising US Open preparation.

Sinner leads by 4,970 points over Zverev. Halys now holds 980 points after his Austrian breakthrough. Van Assche, at just 21, breaks into the top 50 for the first time in his career.
