The turning point came in the second-set tiebreak. Krejcikova, who had been rock-solid throughout, earned two match points. The Philippe-Chatrier crowd held its breath. Baptiste, with her back against the wall, raised her return depth to extraordinary levels, pushing the Czech player deeper on every decisive rally. This victory caps a remarkable season of growth for Baptiste. Ranked 70th at the start of the year, she strung together a semifinal in Abu Dhabi and a quarterfinal at the WTA 1000 in Miami before cracking the Top 25. Her run in Madrid, where she defeated Aryna Sabalenka en route to the semifinals, had already turned heads across the tour.
Krejcikova, meanwhile, sees her Parisian curse continue. Since lifting the trophy in 2021, the former doubles world No. 1 has never reached the quarterfinals again on the Parisian clay. A first-round exit that stings, despite a high-quality performance.
Baptiste will face China's Xiyu Wang in the second round, carrying the momentum of the best stretch of her career.
