The post-Wimbledon week officially started on Monday with four tournaments spread across clay and hard courts. Two ATP 250 events in Kitzbühel (Austria) and Estoril (Portugal), plus two WTA 250 tournaments in Prague (Czech Republic) and Hamburg (Germany), mark the final stretch before the North American hard-court swing.
In Estoril, emotion took centre stage. Stan Wawrinka stepped onto the courts of the Clube de Tenis do Estoril for the first time, as part of his farewell tour. The forty-one-year-old Swiss, who announced 2026 as his final season, faced Argentina's Román Andrés Burruchaga in the first round. The three-time Grand Slam champion received a warm tribute at Gstaad last week. His official retirement will come in October at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, his hometown tournament. Andrey Rublev, the top seed and fresh Bastad champion, leads the draw alongside Luciano Darderi (2nd seed) and Alejandro Tabilo (3rd seed). Nuno Borges, the fifth seed, carries the hopes of the Portuguese crowd.
In Kitzbühel, the Austrian clay delivered its first results. Federico Cina won his opener 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, while Laslo Djere prevailed 6-2, 6-4. Vitaliy Sachko (7-6, 6-2) and Lorenzo Giustino (6-2, 6-4) also advanced. Germany's Sandro Kopp provided the day's minor surprise with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
On the WTA side, Prague hosted the opening day of the Livesport Prague Open on hard courts. Top seed Marie Bouzkova, the home favourite, survived a tighter-than-expected battle against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 7-5, 7-5. Oceane Dodin dispatched Alisa Oktiabreva 6-3, 6-3. Lucie Havlickova dismissed Alycia Parks 6-2, 6-4, while eighth seed Daria Snigur needed three sets to edge past Ella Seidel 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. American Carol Young Suh Lee also reached the second round.
In Hamburg, the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open began its first round on clay.
Earlier in the day, Barbora Krejcikova claimed the Athens title by defeating Maria Sakkari 7-6(5), 6-3 in front of the Greek crowd, collecting her ninth WTA title. In Iasi, Mayar Sherif was crowned champion after Paula Badosa retired from the final (6-4, 4-0 ret.), ending the Spaniard's nine-match winning streak.
