Fritz Wins DC Open: 11th ATP Title Over Rising Star Jodar

Taylor Fritz won the 2026 Mubadala DC Open, defeating Rafael Jodar 7-6(2), 6-4 in the final on Monday in Washington. Seeded third at the tournament, the 28-year-old American claimed his 11th career ATP title and his first trophy above the 250 level since Tokyo in 2022. The victory launches his North American hard-court swing in the best possible fashion.

A clinical tie-break to unlock the final

The final, postponed from Sunday to Monday due to persistent rain in Washington, produced a first set dominated by both players' serves. Neither faced a break point, forcing a tie-break where Fritz raised his level. The American conceded just two points to take the set 7-6(2) with commanding authority. More relaxed in the second set, Fritz found the decisive break and closed out 6-4 after one hour and 49 minutes, winning a remarkable 81% of his first-serve points throughout the match.

Jodar confirms meteoric rise at 19

At just 19 years old, Rafael Jodar was contesting his second ATP final of the season after claiming his maiden title in Marrakech in April. The Madrid-born Spaniard has built an exceptional 2026 campaign for a player of his generation: a semifinalist in Barcelona, a quarterfinalist in Madrid on clay, and now a finalist at an ATP 500 on hard courts in Washington. His ability to perform across all surfaces confirms rare raw talent and tactical maturity at such a young age. Despite the loss, Jodar is establishing himself as one of the names to watch through the end of the season.

Fritz relaunched at the perfect moment

This title erases the frustration of three consecutive final losses this season in Dallas, Stuttgart, and Halle. Fritz rediscovers winning form at the perfect moment. The North American swing, from Cincinnati through to the US Open, represents his preferred hunting ground every year. The American now carries precious momentum into this decisive stretch, with the confidence of a player who has rediscovered his best tennis behind his serve.
