Karolina Muchova revealed on Saturday that she underwent surgery in the days following her Wimbledon final defeat to Linda Noskova (2-6, 7-5, 3-6). The exact nature of the procedure was not disclosed, but the Czech confirmed she would be sidelined for several weeks.
"I had to undergo a small surgery that will keep me off the court for a few weeks. Everything went well, and I'm already working on my recovery," Muchova said on social media. "Sad to be missing Toronto this year. I was really looking forward to making my debut there, but recovery comes first."
The world number 6 joins a growing list of withdrawals from the Canadian Open, scheduled for August 1-13 in Toronto (WTA) and Montreal (ATP). Emma Raducanu, still recovering from a stress fracture in her right tibia that forced her out of Wimbledon, is among the absentees. Victoria Mboko (world No.12), sidelined with a knee injury since Queen's Club, Hailey Baptiste (No.33) and Dayana Yastremska (No.74) have also pulled out.
On the men's side, Carlos Alcaraz will skip Montreal as well. The Spaniard, who has not competed since April due to severe tenosynovitis in his right wrist, is targeting a return at the Cincinnati Masters in mid-August. His doctor confirmed last week that the wrist is "completely healed," but the three-time Roland Garros champion's team prefers a cautious approach.
For Muchova, the key question is whether she will be fit for the US Open, starting August 24. Her Wimbledon fortnight was outstanding, including a semifinal victory over Coco Gauff before falling to the breakthrough Noskova in the final. At twenty-nine, the Czech appeared to have found her best form after months disrupted by injury. This surgery casts fresh uncertainty over the remainder of her season.
