The second day of the HSBC Championships at Queen's Club delivered drama and confirmation in equal measure on the London grass. Seven singles matches, stunning turnarounds and a heroic Katie Boulter lit up the day under changeable English skies.

The defining moment belonged to Boulter's comeback against Leylah Fernandez. Trailing a set after dropping the opener 3-6, the home favourite dug deep in front of her crowd. The second set went to a tiebreak (7-4 to Boulter) before a dramatic decider where she weathered precarious situations to prevail 7-5. A searing forehand passing shot in the final set brought the house down. Suspended the previous evening due to fading light, the match ultimately stretched beyond two hours.
Among the younger generation, Iva Jovic and Alexandra Eala continued their rise. Jovic, 17, dispatched Antonia Ruzic 6-3, 6-4, displaying impressive tactical maturity on grass. Eala was even more clinical against Zhang Shuai, winning 6-3, 6-2 with an attacking game perfectly suited to the fast surface.
Donna Vekic gave wildcard Mika Stojsavljevic no chance (6-2, 6-3), while Sorana Cirstea had to battle through against Maddison Inglis (6-4, 5-7, 6-2) in a topsy-turvy affair. Laura Siegemund, a slow-surface specialist, adapted her game effectively to overcome Francesca Jones 6-2, 6-3.
The second-round matchups already look tantalising. A potential Eala-Jovic clash between two of the youngest players in the draw promises a captivating generational duel. Boulter, carried by her home crowd, will look to build on her comeback against a quality opponent. Queen's Club, true to its reputation, is already delivering fine tennis in the early stages of the grass season.
