Day 2: Swiatek, Rybakina and Monfils' final act at Roland-Garros

Day 2 at Roland-Garros promises both high-level tennis and deep emotion. Four main courts will host significant matches on Monday 25 May, headlined by Gaël Monfils' Paris farewell.

On Court Philippe-Chatrier, Iga Swiatek, the third seed, opens proceedings in the day session against Australia's Emerson Jones. The three-time Roland-Garros champion arrives in confident form after a solid spring, though the quarter of the draw awaiting her, featuring Ostapenko, Kostyuk and Svitolina, will offer no respite.

Ugo Humbert follows on Chatrier against compatriot Adrian Mannarino. An all-French contest that promises quality exchanges, even if the world No. 14 from Metz enters as clear favourite.

The Chatrier night session belongs entirely to Monfils. The 39-year-old will play his final Roland-Garros match against Hugo Gaston, a fixture that encapsulates two eras of French tennis. Monfils, the eternal showman and court acrobat, has promised to give everything for one last spectacle in front of the Parisian crowd.

On Court Suzanne-Lenglen, Ben Shelton begins his Paris campaign. The American with the devastating serve is looking to build on encouraging clay-court results in Rome. Amanda Anisimova, a former semifinalist here, also opens on this court.

Elena Rybakina, the second seed, starts on Court Simonne-Mathieu against Veronika Erjavec. The Kazakh, a finalist in Rome, ranks among the declared title favourites. Jasmine Paolini, last year's finalist, also features on this court.

After a Day 1 marked by Fritz's elimination and Djokovic's warrior comeback, this second day promises its share of answers. The tournament is only just beginning.
