Mboko dispatched France's Lois Boisson 6-4, 6-3 on Court Patrice Dominguez. The 19-year-old Canadian, ranked ninth in the world, displayed impressive serving consistency with a 71% first-serve percentage and effective net play. "I just wanted to stay there as much as I can, make it very physical," she said after the match. For Boisson, a 2025 Roland-Garros semifinalist returning after seven months sidelined by injury, the loss was a setback in an otherwise encouraging comeback.

Fernandez had a far tougher battle. Against Poland's Magdalena Frech, the former US Open finalist prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in a grueling 2-hour, 48-minute encounter. Her tactical drop shots proved decisive, repeatedly catching Frech off guard. The third set offered high drama as Frech narrowed the gap to 4-5 before Fernandez held her nerve to close it out.

Thursday's quarterfinal will be only the second meeting between the two Canadians. Their first clash came in last year's Hong Kong semifinals, where Mboko rallied from a set down to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. That precedent suggests another intense showdown between two players with complementary styles: Mboko's explosive power as the youngest member of the world's top 10, against Fernandez's clay-court savvy and trademark resilience.

With Roland-Garros just days away, this all-Canadian quarterfinal serves as a premium dress rehearsal for both players.
