The biggest surprise came from Jaqueline Cristian. The Romanian qualifier dominated fourth seed Clara Tauson 6-1, 7-5. Cristian was imperious in the opening set, giving the Dane no chance whatsoever. Tauson attempted to fight back in the second set, but the Romanian held firm to secure her second quarterfinal appearance of the 2026 season.

Elsewhere, Zhang Shuai continued her remarkable run by dispatching Diane Parry 6-2, 7-5. The 37-year-old Chinese veteran reaches the quarterfinals on the back of a spectacular three-set comeback against Bucsa in the previous round. Eighth seed Marie Bouzkova advanced after Oliynykova retired while trailing 1-3.

The quarterfinal lineup promises compelling matchups. The headline contest pits Victoria Mboko, the top seed, against fellow Canadian Leylah Fernandez in an all-national showdown. Zhang Shuai will take on Bouzkova, while Cristian will look to extend her giant-killing run.

In Rabat, the day delivered historic moments. Sada Nahimana became the first Burundian player to compete in a WTA main draw, while Morocco's Kabbaj gave her country a rare moment of pride on the women's tour, buoyed by enthusiastic home support.

With Roland-Garros main-draw action just five days away, these warm-up events continue to reshuffle the deck and produce inspiring storylines.
