Kostyuk Stuns Swiatek 7-5, 6-1, Guaranteeing a First-Time Roland-Garros Champion

Marta Kostyuk delivered the most emphatic statement of her career, dismantling four-time champion Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-1 in the fourth round at Roland-Garros on Sunday at Court Philippe-Chatrier.

The Ukrainian, unbeaten on clay this season with 15 consecutive victories, never allowed Swiatek to settle into her typically dominant rhythm. Standing well inside the baseline, Kostyuk crushed returns and took time away from the world No. 3, firing 35 winners and coming to the net 34 times throughout the match.

The first set was tightly contested until 5-5, when Kostyuk broke through with a searing backhand pass. She then held serve to close it out 7-5, aided by a costly double fault from Swiatek at a crucial moment.

The second set was a masterclass. Kostyuk broke immediately and raced to a 5-1 lead, sealing a dominant 6-1 set. Swiatek, usually so formidable on the Parisian clay, had no answers to her opponent's relentless aggression.

The result guarantees a first-time Roland-Garros women's champion for the first time since 2019. Swiatek had held a perfect 3-0 head-to-head record against Kostyuk without dropping a set in their previous meetings.

Kostyuk will face the winner of the Belinda Bencic vs Elina Svitolina clash in the quarterfinals. On this form, the 22-year-old Ukrainian looks a genuine title contender.
