Rain halts thrilling Sinner-Medvedev semifinal in Rome

Roman rain had the final say on Friday night. As Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev delivered a gripping semifinal on Campo Centrale at the Internazionali d'Italia, a downpour forced organizers to suspend play at 9:45 PM with the world number one leading 6-2, 5-7, 4-2.

Sinner had stormed out of the gates, breaking twice in the opening three games to race ahead 3-0. The first set, wrapped up 6-2, suggested a routine evening. Medvedev had other plans. The Russian broke early in the second, built his own 3-0 cushion, and weathered Sinner's fightback to level the match at one set apiece with a hard-fought 7-5.

The deciding set took a dramatic turn when Sinner appeared physically compromised, hunching over in a corner of the court while trailing 1-3. The Italian called for a medical timeout at the 2-3 changeover before summoning enough energy to break back and surge ahead 4-2, the exact moment the Roman skies opened.

Play resumes Saturday at 3 PM local time, ahead of the women's final between Coco Gauff and Elina Svitolina. The winner faces Casper Ruud in Sunday's championship match (ATP Tour).
