Swiatek and Osaka Cruise, Set Up Blockbuster Fourth Round in Rome

The Foro Italico got a taste of what is to come on Saturday. Iga Swiatek and Naomi Osaka dismantled their third-round opponents in devastating fashion, setting up a mouth-watering fourth-round clash.

Swiatek left nothing for Elisabetta Cocciaretto, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in just 65 minutes. The Pole struck 17 winners against 11 unforced errors and won 72% of points on her first serve. "I just wanted to be solid and focus on myself no matter what the score was," Swiatek said afterward. "Sometimes at the end of the match it is easy for the opponent to let go and just go for it."

Naomi Osaka was equally ruthless against Diana Shnaider, winning 6-1, 6-2 in 54 minutes. The former world No.1 hit 10 winners with just 7 unforced errors, converted 5 break points, and won 78% of first serve points. It was the kind of performance that suggests Osaka's comeback is no longer a story of potential, but of results.

The head-to-head stands at 2-1 in Swiatek's favor. Their most recent meeting came at the 2024 Roland Garros second round, where Swiatek survived a match point before prevailing 7-6(1), 1-6, 7-5 in a three-set epic.

Both players arrive in peak form. Swiatek is sharpening her clay-court game ahead of Roland Garros, while Osaka continues to prove that her return from maternity leave has produced genuine top-level tennis. The winner will carry serious momentum into the Rome quarterfinals and beyond.
